The recent decision by the NSW Government to cut Moore Park Golf Course in half and reduce it to 9-holes will severely impact access to golf in Sydney, with a disproportionate impact on women and young people
Moore Park Golf Course offers an exceptional golfing experience, open to the entire community seven days a week. It’s an affordable championship course located conveniently near Sydney’s CBD and major transport links. Halving this already very busy course risks denying access to golf for those that cannot afford or get to expensive alternative options to play.
Golf is a sport that brings people together, regardless of gender, age, or skill level. It promotes physical and mental well-being, fosters inclusiveness, and strengthens the bonds of community and camaraderie. During the pandemic, it became a safe and cherished outlet, and it continues to enjoy significant growth in popularity, particularly among women and kids.
We are committed to preserving Moore Park Golf Course as an inclusive recreational facility, appealing to and welcoming all members of the community.
Moore Park golf course occupies only 12% of the 360ha that is the Centennial and Moore Park precinct. Immediately around the golf course there is Kippax Lake, Upper Kippax, Tramway Oval, Moore Par, Moore Park Bat & Ball Oval (combined about 35 hectares) all of which could have been developed ahead of the golf course.
Moore Park golf precinct is one of the busiest public golf facilities in Australia. It is unique as it provides all
the starting blocks for the beginner golfer but also the top-level facility for the more experienced golfer. Of the 90,000 rounds played each year 75% is by the general public and visitors to Sydney, and 82% of the precinct users live within 10km.
Over 100 years ago the original intent for Moore Park was to create workers’ golf course and a workers’ Golf Club. Moore Park Golf course continues this tradition of being accessible to the entire community.
The Moore Park Golf precinct provides a unique pathway opportunity for potential golfers to have lessons, practice on the driving range then progress to playing an 18-hole championship golf course.
Each year approximately 5000 junior and beginner lessons are conducted by the resident professionals.
